Sleep-Related Movement Disorders

Sleep-related movement disorders can fragment sleep and lead to significant daytime fatigue, even if total sleep time seems adequate.

You may have a movement-related sleep disorder if you:

  • Feel an uncontrollable urge to move your legs at night
  • Experience uncomfortable sensations in the legs at rest
  • Have frequent leg movements during sleep
  • Wake feeling restless or poorly rested
  • Have bed partners who notice kicking or jerking movements
  • Experience unusual behaviours during sleep such as acting out dreams

Assessment allows us to identify the cause and guide effective treatment.

FAQs

No referral is required. Patients can book directly for any sleep concern, whether you’re struggling with insomnia, snoring, daytime fatigue or simply want to optimise your sleep. Doctors are welcome to refer, but it’s not a requirement.

Most South African medical aids do cover consultations at standard rates, and many also cover home sleep testing depending on the plan and scheme rules. We will provide the necessary codes and documentation so you can claim back directly from your medical aid. Coverage varies, so we encourage patients to confirm benefits with their scheme.

A home sleep test is a small, easy-to-use device delivered to your home anywhere in South Africa. You sleep with it for one night, and it measures breathing, airflow, oxygen levels and sleep disruptions. For diagnosing sleep apnoea, home testing is highly accurate, widely used internationally and far more comfortable than a hospital-based sleep study.

Yes. We offer full virtual care, including initial consultations, follow-ups, insomnia treatment (CBT-I) and sleep optimisation programmes. If a sleep test is needed, we courier the device to you and review the results online — making our services accessible anywhere in the country.
